Founded in 1900, AACP is the national organization representing pharmacy education in the United States. The mission of the Association is to both represent and be an advocate for all segments of the academic community in the profession of pharmacy. AACP is comprised of all ACPE accredited colleges and schools with professional pharmacy degree programs encompassing 119 colleges/schools and approximately 54,700 professional degree students, 5,400 students enrolled in graduate studies and more than 6,190 full-time faculty.
The Vice President for Research and Graduate Education serves as the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) for AACP. The CSO serves as the liaison and spokesperson for AACP and the Academy with federal agencies and private funding organizations which focus on research support across the spectrum of the pharmaceutical sciences. The CSO, in collaboration with the VP of Policy and Advocacy, is expected to be fully engaged in policy development initiatives related to the health services and biomedical research agendas. An ability to promote high level interdisciplinary/interprofessional research collaborations with other health professions associations, the National Institutes of Health, CMS, CDC and AHRQ is a particularly high priority. The Vice President’s office will also serve as the strategic liaison between AACP and its members in the areas of graduate education, research, research funding and graduate program evaluation, and will regularly inform members of funding opportunities and of changes in federal or foundation funding programs that may impact their graduate and/or research programs. Other responsibilities include: development and implementation of programs to support faculty development related to research, including grant writing and graduate program review and evaluation.
Education, training, experience:
Qualified candidates will possess a doctoral degree and a strong record of research accomplishments in one of the relevant pharmaceutical science disciplines, experience mentoring graduate students, and some exposure to policy development at the federal and state levels.
The CSO reports directly to the CEO/Executive Vice President and is a critical member of the Association executive leadership team.
