The University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy is seeking an experienced educator- scholar with proven administrative and leadership abilities to advance the collegiate education mission collaboratively with the Senior Associate Dean for Professional Education, administration, faculty, and professional staff .
This position is a twelve-month, full-time, tenure track/tenured faculty appointment with a 50% administrative assignment as Assistant Dean. The successful candidate must have scholarly productivity in pharmacy education or a pharmacy discipline consistent with a tenured or tenure-track position. Department membership will be determined by the scholarly interests of the candidate. The Assistant Dean will lead a dynamic Professional Education Division (PED), collaboratively with the Senior Associate Dean and various Directors that form the PED leadership team. PED achieves its strategic goals across dual campuses via the Office of Student Services, Office of Student Learning Assessment, Office of Professional Curriculum, Office of Innovative Learning & Academic Technologies, Office of Applied & Experiential Education, and Office of Cyberlearning & Outreach. The Division is uniquely positioned to advance its mission “to engage, to transform, and to improve lives through pharmacy education.” Through collaborative partnerships and strategic visioning, the Assistant Dean will foster the PED vision: “serve as the compass for leading pharmacy education worldwide by fostering transformative learning that challenges expectations, broadens horizons, and prepares learners for their lives as pharmacy leaders and engaged global citizens.”
There are substantial opportunities for the successful, inspiring leader to advance student learning through initiatives related to academic advising, career development, professionalism, and leadership/advocacy. The Assistant Dean will be influential in fostering curricular “reengineering” by facilitating design, implementation, and delivery of a new curriculum. The leader will be central in advancing best practices in education to foster transformative, technology-enhanced learning within authentic, performance based environments. The leader will ensure the professional education program is surpassing its strategic goals and advancing educational innovation and scholarship. This may be accomplished through leadership within the collegiate REACH Institute (Reforming Education to Advance Change in Healthcare). This institute serves as a catalyst to advance pharmacy education and research. It serves as a community of learning and innovation to foster faculty collaboration and propel creativity and exploration of new ideas.
The University of Minnesota, College of Pharmacy is a highly ranked pharmacy program across two campuses (Minneapolis and Duluth) connected with interactive technologies. Each campus has a full complement of faculty members and the Assistant Dean will work fully with faculty on both campuses, and may be based on either campus.
Education, training, experience:
Requirements for this position are Ph.D. or Doctor of Pharmacy degree with advanced training. Significant experience in higher education is required preferably in concentrated areas of education such as student affairs, technology enhanced learning, instructional design, or assessment. The successful candidate must have experience working collaboratively within teams and have strong communication skills. Proven ability to manage large, diverse teams is also required.
