The College of Pharmacy and Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) invites applications for the position of Chair, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

We seek applicants who are nationally and internationally recognized scholars in the pharmaceutical sciences; have a commitment to professional pharmacy and graduate education; the passion to maintain a vigorous, externally funded research program; and the ability to provide leadership to the Department, College and University in an era of growth and development.

The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences is one of two departments in the College of Pharmacy and consists of eighteen faculty members including four research track appointments. Research funding for the current year of over $12.5 million and the college is ranked 4th out of 110 colleges of pharmacy in terms of NIH funding per faculty member. There are 35 students in the graduate program and approximately 60 post doctoral and other researchers. Areas of research emphasis, particularly as they relate to the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, infectious diseases and the neurosciences, include: drug delivery, nanomedicine, drug discovery, pharmacokinetics, molecular biology, pharmaceutical biophysics and clinical and experimental therapeutics. The college plays an integral role on campus enjoying strong relationships and interdisciplinary research collaborations with other scientists in other colleges on campus as well as national and international universities.

The College of Pharmacy is a dynamic, rapidly growing unit on a strong health sciences campus. After recently celebrating 100 years of excellence in pharmaceutical education and research, the College of Pharmacy is entering a new and exciting phase of growth and development. The College of Pharmacy is positioned to recruit new faculty members to enhance its nationally renowned programs in basic, translational, and clinical research, education and clinical practice.

UNMC is one of four campuses of the University of Nebraska and consists of the colleges of dentistry, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, public health and the School of allied health professions. Together with the Epply Institute for Cancer Research and the Munroe-Meyer Institute that focuses on developmental disabilities and genetic disorders, these colleges serve more than 3,100 students in more than two dozen programs. In addition to the Lied Transplant Center, the university has recently opened state-of-the-art research and education facilities in the two, 10-level Durham Research Centers and the Michael F. Sorrel Center for Health Science Education.

A Ph.D. degree or equivalent, a strong track record of scientific and academic achievements demonstrated by publication record and grant funding, combined with documented skills in teaching, and excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills are required for this position. The ideal candidate will qualify for appointment at the rank of professor with tenure.
