Campus Dean – Columbia, SC.

There is an immediate opening for the Campus Dean, the School’s senior academic and administrative officer, at the Columbia Campus. The Campus Dean's of both the Columbia and Savannah Campuses report directly to the Dean of the School of Pharmacy. The South University Doctor of Pharmacy program offered on the campus in Savannah, Georgia is now offered at a second location on the South University campus in Columbia, South Carolina. On June 14, 2010, delivery of didactic and related curricular content between the Columbia Campus and the Savannah Campus , accommodated via synchronous, two way video communication and interaction, began for the inaugural class of 68 students. All components of the curriculum including pharmacy skills laboratories, physical assessment laboratories, small group recitations and problem based learning activities as well as present and envisioned educational methodologies of delivery are conducted live in the new 26,000 sq. ft. pharmacy facility located on the Columbia Campus.

The Campus Dean is responsible for daily leadership within the School and University on the Columbia Campus and for creating a sustained environment of academic and professional excellence for students and faculty. It is expected that the Campus Dean will establish a collaborative working environment for all members of the educational team. The successful candidate must effectively manage the School’s personnel, financial, and physical resources on the Columbia Campus. The Campus Dean ensures that program content and delivery are consistently of the highest quality, through systematic review and assessment of the curriculum, and student learning outcomes. This individual will advocate and facilitate the sharing of best practices between campus faculty and balance local campus interests with program imperatives.

The responsibilities of the position involve the oversight of the new physical facilities, personnel procurement, continuing accreditation certifications and facilitating as appropriate the student selection process and the matriculation of a new class of students each June. Other responsibilities include the continued implementation of the Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum and daily administration of the program including implementation of the existing Strategic Plan of the School as well as student affairs and faculty development programs.

The Doctor of Pharmacy Program-Columbia is a fully accredited extension of the existing program in Savannah, GA and operating on a single academic calendar.

Job Requirements


Education, training, experience:
The successful candidate should possess a Ph.D. Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences or related Biomedical discipline or the Pharm.D. Degree with significant basic science experience. Preference will be given to individuals with a professional degree in pharmacy. The individual should have teaching experience in pharmacy education and a record of faculty leadership, scholarship and service appropriate for appointment at the level of Associate Professor or Full Professor.
