The Ben and Maytee Fisch College of Pharmacy at The University of Texas at Tyler invites applications to join a transformative and growing executive leadership team. The Department Chair of Clinical Sciences is a full-time position with an administrator role and faculty appointment (open-rank, non-tenure track). This position reports to the Dean of the Fisch College of Pharmacy and provides key leadership for the Department of Clinical Sciences at the college. The Department Chair provides strategic direction and vision, administratively oversees faculty and staff, and establishes and monitors outcomes for teaching, research and scholarship, practice, and service.

Essential Functions:
Provide leadership to the Department, establishing a clear vision for the department for growth
Foster excellence in teaching, research, practice and service of individual faculty members while establishing and routinely monitoring outcomes
Identify, develop, and assign practice sites to faculty, facilitating changes when needed, and ensuring effective integration of faculty at the practice site
Conduct regular visits of faculty practice sites and routinely communicate and strategize with practice site leaders
Engage in assessment and strategic planning processes in alignment and coordination with the College and University
Professionally develop and mentor faculty and staff in the department
Prepare and manage the Department budget as directed by the Dean and in accordance with University and College policies
Conduct evaluations of departmental faculty and staff
Mentor and coordinate administrative processes for faculty seeking promotion in rank
Oversee the recruitment and retention of high-quality faculty members with recommendation for employment provided to the Dean
Assign and routinely monitor faculty and staff workload and corresponding accountability, using effective workload estimators
Collaborate with College committees and leaders to support and successfully implement college initiatives
Positively contribute to the culture of the college, department, and leadership team.
Support and positively represent the college’s Executive Team to students, faculty, department, and external stakeholders
Manage the enforcement of accreditation, university, system and regulatory policies and procedures
Maintain teaching and service assignments while actively engaging in practice responsibilities and research and scholarship
Address questions, complaints, grievances, and suggestions from faculty, staff, and students
Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited institution with completion of postgraduate residency training or equivalent experience, with demonstrated pharmacy practice competence.
License to practice pharmacy in Texas or the ability to acquire within three months of employment
Attained rank of Associate or Full Professor
Demonstrated administrative experience managing human and fiscal resources
Preferred Qualifications:
Active pharmacist license in Texas or eligible for licensure
